Changes to the Regulations of the Cultural Tax of Cologne from the 1st of December 2014
We would like to inform you that in Cologne from the 1st of December 2014, a Cultural Tax with new regulations will be imposed. The new articles were published on the 19th of November 2014 in the Kölner Amtsblatt. According to the new regulations, every guest must pay this tax. An exemption is only possible if the documentation exempting the guest/s from the cultural tax, which is required by the City of Cologne, is provided. This applies to every guest and every overnight stay.

Official forms for company employees:
Additionally, a signed certification from the employer must be provided which details the occupational necessity of the overnight stay/s.
Official form for tradesmen and freelancers:
Every guest must, among other details, provide his ID or passport number on the applicable form, while tradesmen and freelancers must additionally provide their Tax Identification Number.
The Cultural Tax is billed without value-added tax. The official forms are written and provided in the official language “German”. A translation into another language is forbidden due to legal reasons.
Please inform your travelers, to guarantee a smooth processing when checking-out of the hotel, and so that the legal requirements of the city of Cologne can be fulfilled. Should the necessary documentation not be provided in full completeness, then the charging of the cultural tax to the guest is unavoidable.
